Over the last couple of years, we have sold over 3400+ kits since 2012 and have been asked quite a few questions! Below are an example of the more frequent ones we have received. Please feel free to contact us should have any questions that aren’t covered in the ones below:
Yes! Both Keratin Aus Smooth & Brasil Cacau Keratin Treatment Formula are classed as formaldehyde-free and don’t contain parabens. Some of the very first keratin treatments that came out unfortunately did and had some adverse reactions to people. These are not one of those treatments.
No, both Keratin Aus Smooth & Brasil Cacau Keratin treatment don’t require to be left in. The process of using heat to bond the keratin on top of the hair follicles means once you’ve completed the treatment your hair is done. Treatments that require to be left in for extended periods of time can actually be trying to change the chemical structure of the hair leading to damage or weakening of the hair. Our treatment don’t do this.
Damaged/ Bleached Hair – Yes, both Keratin Aus Smooth & Brasil Cacau Keratin Treatment are suitable for bleached and damaged hair. We have adjusted instructions for bleached hair, the temperature of your straightener is lower for a couple more passes. We have some people in our testimonials that have bleached hair for reference.📢 Testimonials
Coloured Hair- Yes of course. The keratin bonds to the outside of the hair follicles and creates a barrier, some say it even helps prolong hair colour! The manufacturer recommends as a precaution to wait 2 weeks after a fresh dye or bleach before performing the keratin treatment. This is to let the colour settle. It is possible to perform the treatment after a colour/dye and it will lock that colour in reducing the fade time.
Blonde/Highlighted Hair – Yes it is safe for blonde hair, we just suggest waiting 2 weeks after highlighting to do the keratin treatment
The preferred method is actually colour your hair first then do Keratin treatment. Keratin treatment on top of your coloured hair provides significant benefits as doing it the other way around.
If you want to colour your hair after treatment, it is recommended that you should wait a minimum of 2 weeks before adding the colour to allow the keratin to complete the bond and nourishing of the hair.
No! If you follow the instructions, our keratin treatment Brasil Cacau & Keratin AUS Smooth helps bind the keratin on top of the hair follicles. Keratin treatment is a product that makes your hair straighter, smoother, and shinier. Its main ingredient is keratin which is the main protein of our hair that coats hair cells underneath. It is responsible for preventing breakage, frizz, and heat damage.
We have designed these kits so you can perform yourself. If you can straighten your hair you perform this yourself. Having someone assisting will also speed up the process.
Keratin AUS Smooth is very similar to the first formula Brasil Cacau but it is more about keeping your hair definition than a straightening solution.
The process is very similar to Brasil Cacau but you don’t need to do as many passes to get a more defined look.
The difference between the two formulas we have is:
Keratin AUS Smooth – The end result is smooth hair with some definition / waves in the hair and can be used and straightening too with more passes.
Brasil Cacau – This is best if you’re after more of a straight hair finish.
Both will reduce frizz, and leave hair soft, smooth with a healthy shine.
So our DIY Keratin Treatment adds a layer on top of the hair follicles to help strengthen hair.
It does require heat to bind it onto the hair, and in cases of bleached or damaged hair we recommend a lower setting of 190 degrees instead of 230 degrees.
We adjusted the instructions for Keratin AUS Smooth to use less heat and less passes with a straightener to get a soft smooth natural look and feel
Bonding the thermal layer of keratin will add some weight so your pre-treatment curls won’t be the same. During our guided process you can choose to relax your curls and keep some definition or perform as a semi-permanent straightening treatment.
Once Keratin AUS Smooth Treatment applied, it will significantly reduce Frizz leaving the hair feeling soft and with shine.
You can opt for:
If you opt to use as a smoothing treatment you can still have straight hair easily with a few passes of a hair straightener (much less time than without the treatment).
We would class it as semi-permanent, after you have completed the treatment it will last between 3-4 months depending on the frequency on how many times you wash your hair
Yes! technically both Keratin Aus Smooth & Brasil Cacau Keratin Treatment Formula are classed as formaldehyde-free and doesn’t contain parabens. Some of the first keratin treatments that came out unfortunately did and had some adverse reactions to people. This is not one of those treatments.
No not at all, the first ‘permanent’ straightening treatments had you leave the treatment overnight before you could rinse it out. These treatments can be applied and as soon as you’re finished you wash it out and apply a conditioner. You can even do you hair straight after and go out!
Time will vary due to a number of factors such as if you’re doing it yourself and how long your hair is.
As a general rule, it will be a minimum of 1 hour to 4 hours. The main process that takes the longest is parting small strands of hair, applying the keratin, and running the hair straightener across those strands for 6 – 8 times. The first time is usually the longest as with most things. It doesn’t any longer than if you went to a salon, and some customers have said they found it quicker.
The message from the manufacturer is there have been no clinical testing on whether it is safe or unsafe while pregnant. As a precaution (as there has been no studies conducted) the manufacturer advises against using while pregnant or breastfeeding.
Yes! If you are comfortable with parting your hair and using a hair straightener then you can do this treatment by yourself. Have a look at the instructions and video to see if you have the confidence to perform yourself. The instructions provided in each kit are very detailed and step-by-step guided.
There are some fumes that emit during the keratin bonding phase for both Keratin AUS Smooth & Brasil Cacau Treatment. Because of this, we recommend being in a well-ventilated room or outside. Ensure there isn’t any wind or fans that could push the fumes into your eyes and mouth. Typically hair salons are large rooms with no wind.
Our Keratin Treatments Brasil Cacau & Keratin AUS Smooth are Salon Quality Professional used in many salons across the world. We feel the formula we provide is a market leader as the issues many other brands have been reported on don’t occur with the Brasil Cacau & Keratin AUS Smooth. Other keratin treatments can cause colour shift or discoloured hair, skin irritation and results that don’t last past 2 weeks.
Brasil Cacau & Keratin AUS Smooth are heat-activated and contains no parabens. It’s certified vegan and of course cruelty-free.
No! If you follow the instructions, our keratin treatments Brasil Cacau & Keratin AUS Smooth help bind the keratin on top of the hair follicles. Keratin treatment is a product that makes your hair straighter, smoother, and shinier. Its main ingredient is keratin which is the main protein of our hair that coats hair cells underneath. It is responsible for preventing breakage, frizz, and heat damage.
No. A keratin treatment is very different from a relaxer. Our keratin treatments Brasil Cacau & Keratin AUS Smooth are crafted from Professional Salon Formula. It is also formaldehyde-free. Relaxers may chemically alter the hair which can soften and swell the hair shaft or break the natural bonds. Keratin Serum’s pH (2.8) promotes a straight effect and is stabilized by patented formula.
Palm Keratin and cocoa fortify the health of the hair by bonding to the outside of the hair follicles. Unlike relaxers and straighteners which are permanent, keratin treatment will gently smooth your hair that will lasts up to 4 months.
This will be different for each person. We have in our ‘How to DIY’ section a guide to look at the length of the hair to see which kit size is optimal to you. If you would classify your hair thicker than average we recommend adding 10ml to your kit size or go one size up. If your hair length matches a 50ml kit then purchase a 60ml kit.
If you have some left over Step 2 from your treatment your able to replace the cap on the syringe and store it for the next treatment.
For example if you purchased a 50ml kit and had 10ml of step2 leftover (meaning you only used 40ml) then next time you can purchase a 30ml kit and use the 10ml leftover to make up the 40ml kit. Important Note: Make sure to buy the same formula. If you have left over Keratin Aus Smooth purchase DIY Keratin AUS Smooth Kit. If you have left over Brasil Cacau Formula purchase DIY Brasil Cacau Kit.
The keratin treatment binds to the hair using the straightener. Once all of the hair has had the straightening done, it should be rinsed and conditioned straight away. Rest assured, when you rinse your hair straight after the treatment, the keratin won’t get washed out.
📌Please take note that it is very important that all the treatment has been straightened as per the instructions so it can bind the hair follicles.
𝐍𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐥, other permanent straightening treatments advise you to leave the treatment overnight before you could rinse it out. 𝐁𝐮𝐭 our DIY Keratin Hair Treatments Brasil Cacau & Keratin Aus Smooth can be applied and as soon as you’re finished straightening it, you can wash it out and apply Step 3 Conditioning Mask. You can opt to air dry or use a blow dryer after the treatment.
We know how hard it is to rinse your beautifully straightened hair after you have spent all the time doing the treatment, but it is the best for your hair.
Our treatments have a best before of 12 months from purchase. Best kept in a cool area away from direct sunlight.
Yes of course.
As the keratin bonds to the outside of the hair, it is recommended that hair be dyed 2 weeks before a keratin treatment. You can also perform keratin treatments straight after a colour and it will reduce the fade time.
The process of applying a dye on top of hair that has been keratin-treated may strip the keratin away and/or the dye won’t apply as it should. If in doubt speak to your local dye supplier (pharmacy, hair product shop, etc.) for their opinion on the dye you plan to use.
You can use your own shampoo/conditioners, however, look for products that don’t contain ‘sulphate’ or are classed as sulphate free. Sulphates in shampoo/conditioners will over time reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.
We recommend using De Lorenzo Instant Allevi8 Shampoo & Conditioner as they don’t have any ingredients that can cause harm to keratin and actually assist in prolonging the results.
You can find this aftercare option in our store here.
Absolutely! This is one of the main functions of the treatment to reduce frizz, especially in hot/humid conditions. In some cases, it won’t eliminate all frizz but majorly reduce for excellent results.
As soon as all of the steps are completed, the treatment is finished and you can wash your hair as normal. We recommend not to wash too frequently (one or more times a day) as this could reduce how long the results last.
Although we recommend having a good straightener that can go to 230 degrees, it can be done with a straightener that is less than this.
It will need to be a minimum of 190 degrees, and you can run it across your hair strands 1 – 2 more times than instructions call for to ensure the bond occurs
The short answer is NO. A perm involves using chemicals to alter the hair strands. This process damages the hair and leaves it in an altered state. Adding a keratin treatment on top of this state would not be advisable as the hair needs time to repair. It’s generally recommended, to wait 6 months after a perm before applying a keratin treatment.
Yes! As Keratin Treatment is rich in keratin (hair’s major protein), it works to repair the damage caused by other chemical treatments and infused lost keratin. However, 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐚𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐬 between any chemical treatments and adjust hair iron temperature based on your hair type as listed in instructions
Depending on your exact hair type and how curly your strands are, there is no promise of a completely straight finish, but it will be much more 𝒓𝒆𝒍𝒂𝒙𝒆𝒅, 𝒔𝒎𝒐𝒐𝒕𝒉 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒚! A keratin treatment is a great option for those with curly hair who want a more relaxed and shiny finish. It’s also a great way to tame frizz and flyaways, which can be very common for curly hair types.
Keratin coats the hair surface with keratin protein, filling in the protein “gaps” in the hair, and 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙩 𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙠𝙮, 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚. With a keratin treatment, your frizzy, damaged, dry hair becomes smooth hair for a period of about three to four months until the hair treatment gradually dissipates
🚨Please remember that not all keratin treatments are created equal. Any treatments that ask you to leave in for extended periods of time are potentially altering your hair’s chemical structure. Stick to thermal treatments to protect your hair.
YES, a keratin treatment is good for people with thin and a lot of hair. The treatment will strengthen their hair and reduce frizz. If you have a small amount of hair, this treatment isn’t recommended. Also, you should avoid keratin treatments that contain formaldehyde because they could leave your fine hair on the verge of breakage. In general, keratin treatment will have many benefits for your thin hair because it strengthens the existing keratin in your own hair
As we age, our scalp produces less of its natural oil, which can lead to grey hair looking dull and lifeless. If you’ve been wondering if keratin treatment is good for your hair, you can try it without the hassle of visiting a salon. Keratin Treatments are actually good for grey hair, the coarse and wiry feeling you might have with grey hair can be reduced dramatically. DIY Keratin Treatment will soften your hair and add shine to it.
Hair should be cut ✂️ after the completion of any treatment. In some instances, if you already have split ends, any imperfections in length or over-processed ends will be most visible following any treatment. We recommend not to over saturate your hair with the Keratin solution, a light coating goes a long way!
We would recommend that you should repeat the Keratin Treatment process from near the roots to the ends. This will provide the best results. Your hair will become increasingly soft and smooth with each DIY Keratin treatment.
It’s still possible! Here are our recommendations.
One! ✅Wait at least a week as a developmental phase for your treatment before you go swimming.
Two! ✅Make sure to put a leave-in conditioner before taking a plunge.
And finally! ✅Rinse your hair with clean water every time you get out of water.
(Don’t let the pool/beach water dry on your hair. 👈) Again, the above steps are only to minimize the absorption of salts and chlorine in your hair. Our Keratin treatment typically lasts 3 – 4 months and these tips will ensure you get the results you’re after for longer.
Yes, both swimming in a pool and ocean can have an impact on the effectiveness of the DIY Keratin Hair treatment. Chlorine and other chemicals in swimming pools can over time fade the keratin treatment from your hair, causing it to eventually lose its shine, smoothness, and strength. Additionally, saltwater in the ocean can have a similar effect on the hair.
However, there are effective options to minimise the impact. It is best to wait at least 48 hours after getting a Keratin Hair treatment before swimming. This will give the treatment time to fully penetrate and bond with your hair.
Add some protection: Before swimming, wet your hair with fresh water prior to jumping in chlorinated pool water or ocean, your hair will absorb more of the freshwater and less of the chlorine or salt water. If you don’t have immediate access to a shower, consider keeping a spray bottle in your bag to soak your strands every now and then. You can also apply a leave-in conditioner or oil to your hair to create a barrier and protect the hair. Wear a good fabric-based swim cap. If you have long hair, use silk scrunchies to tie back your hair to minimise tangles.
After swimming, rinse your hair thoroughly with clean water to remove any chlorine or saltwater. Apply a deep conditioner or hair mask to restore moisture and nourishment to your hair. Use a wide-toothed comb to gently detangle and smooth wet hair.
Avoid using hot tools on your hair for a few days after swimming to prevent further damage.
Warming the hair a little bit is ok, we just don’t want it to get hot so the bonding starts. If you can do it from a distance and move it around a bit so not on one area for too long this should be fine.

Firstly it’s not that salons are trying to overcharge people for a keratin treatment (although this sometimes might be the case). The truth is that salons have a lot of expenses that they need to account for when performing a keratin treatment.
A full keratin kit for the salon to start with can easily cost $1000 or more. They also have rent, wages, tax, electricity etc to pay for. As the treatment can take 2 – 4 hours in a salon this is time they’re unable to perform other treatments or cuts so they need to charge for the time. This all adds up for the salon and hence the price.
We are able to charge a lower rate for the keratin treatments as we don’t have these overheads and pass the savings on to you.
We've had some amazing feedback from customers wanting to share their stories and results.

We ship to all Australian addresses. Currently, we are also shipping to New Zealand, United Kingdom, Canada, United States, Papua New Guinea & Philippines.
Our main logistics partner is Australia Post. We post orders daily and we have Express Post as an upgrade option in the checkout. Alternatively, we may use Sendle couriers. Sendle uses courier services such as Couriers Please / Fastway. Certain areas & PO Boxes aren’t covered by Sendle as well as Express Post, for these instances, we ship through Australia Post. For International Postage we may use DHL International Saver and Express.
Yes during checkout you’ll have the option to select free shipping or pay a nominal fee to upgrade to express post.
We do offer the chance to pick up from our home office in Deception Bay. This is by appointment only and available times vary, we do recommend receiving via postage.
Unfortunately, Australia Post can sometimes let us down and not attempt delivery and leave a card, in some instances a card is not even left. The tracking usually shows the post office the parcel has been taken to, drop-in or call that post office to see if your parcel is there for collection.
We strive to ship orders out within the same day or the next business day (depending on when the order was placed). Express Post is an option at checkout if you’re looking for faster delivery service.
International
Internationals can take 24-48 hours to lodge as we need to get paperwork ready and book with a courier.
To see if we have your country as a postage option place a keratin kit in your order and go to checkout to see if you can select your country. If you cannot please contact us via chat bubble and we can look at options to open your country up.
If your country is available the next step would be to check with your local customs guidelines on the type of items that are allowed into your country (usually on your local customs website). Our product will typically fall under the HS code 3305 ‘hair treatments’. These guidelines can change frequently so we may not know if availability in your country has changed.
If 3305 is not flagged then you can place an order and we will lodge it while also including the ingredients list in case customs need to check the order.
The service options to your country will be shown during the checkout process. The standard postage options will likely use your local postage service to deliver, alternatively international couriers such as DHL will be listed.
We will endeavor to lodge your order within 1-2 business days. Time frames should be shown in the postage service options. Please be aware these delivery times don’t include any delays due to your local customs processing your parcel.
Most options will contain tracking and an email with tracking link will come through after we submit your booking. Please allow 1-2 business days for tracking events to be populated. Services with the word ‘economy’ in the title will have limited to no tracking and is reflected with the lower rate in shipping cost.
We accept all credit cards through our secure Stripe payment gateway. We also accept Paypal payments and Direct Bank Deposit payments.
Stripe credit card payments are the quickest for us to receive and confirm the order is ready to process, we prefer this method so we can send the orders on time.
When going through the checkout you can select Direct Deposit as a payment option.
Once the order is complete you’ll receive the bank details to transfer the funds into. After you transfer the funds there may be 2 scenarios.
Bank accounts that have Osko enabled with our bank will transfer the funds instantly. Alternatively, without Osko, it can take 1 – 2 business days to clear.
Once payment has been received into our account we will despatch your order.
Unfortunately at this time we have not partnered with any part payment companies.
Orders that fail are usually due to a credit card error that has come from your bank. The most common is the CVC (number on the back of the card) didn’t match the bank’s records. Another reason we see is insufficient funds. You can attempt to place another order to correct the error.
In some instances when an order is placed with a credit card the bank will place a pending payment onto your statement. If the CVC number was entered incorrectly the funds won’t come through to us but you may see a pending payment on your statement. This will typically disappear within 24 hours. You are safe to attempt to place an order again or you can wait until the pending payment on your statement is cleared.
From early 2022 we now offer Paypal ‘Pay in 4’
If you select this option you’ll be directed to Paypal to qualify. If you do then your order total will be divided into 4 payments.
Make the first payment at the time of purchase and pay the rest in 3 payments – one every two weeks.
No interest or fees on these payments will be added.
Qualification for this service is at the sole discretion of Paypal.
