Our Simple Keratin Bonding Process Explained
Step 1 - Prepare
The shampoo in Step 1 specifically targets oils and dirt to bring the hair to a raw state. This opens up the cuticles ready for the keratin to make a strong bond.
Step 2 - Keratin Bond
The keratin will bond on top of the hair. With partial heat and passes the hair can have a more relaxed look. Or extend the straightening and increase the heat for a straighter finish.
Step 3 - Condition & Protect
Once the bond is complete the conditioning mask is added to seal and protect the keratin bond. The treatment is complete and you can style your hair your way.

How does our Keratin Hair Treatment work?
Using a 3 step process, Keratin (which is a main component of hair) is bonded on the outside of the hair follicle using a hair straightener. The result produces less frizz, straightens and protects the hair.
The 3 step process includes:
Step 1: Clarifying shampoo.
This step utilises Alkaline pH (9.0) shampoo to help open the follicles and remove impurities to assist the Keratin to bond to the hair.
Step 2 : Brazilian Thermal Reconstruction Keratin
Its Acid pH (2.8) promotes a straight effect and is stabilized by patented formula. Palm Keratin and cocoa fortify the health of the hair by bonding to the outside of the hair follicles.
Step 3: Deep Conditioning Mask
Restores normal pH balance (4.5) to ensure hair health and shine while sealing the treatment in for longer-lasting results.
*Note*
Not all keratin hair treatments work the same way. Our treatments are completed in one session, others require the keratin to be left in for 24 – 48 hours. The type of treatments that require a long time on the hair are potentially changing the internal chemical structure of the hair. The treatment we offer does not do this as it adds a layer of keratin on top of the hair.
FAQs
What results can I expect?
This treatment once applied will significantly reduce Frizz leaving the hair feeling soft and with shine.
It typically will reduce the need to straighten your hair or only a few passes with a straightener will be required.
How long does the treatment take?
Typically 2 – 4 hours and then it is fully complete. Time will vary for hair length, if you have assistance etc.
Can I perform this treatment myself?
We have designed these kits so you can perform yourself. If you can straighten your hair you perform this yourself. Having someone assisting will also speed up the process.
I have coloured / bleached hair is this suitable?
Yes, Both Keratin AUS Smooth & Brasil Cacau treatment works on all hair types. If you colour, we recommend colouring first and then performing the treatment. You can apply keratin after a colour or wait a few days for your colour to settle before performing the treatment. For blonde / bleached hair this treatment won’t adjust your colour unlike some other salon keratin treatments and adjusted instructions are included.
How long does the results last?
Results typically last 3 – 4 months. Frequent hair washing and sulfates in aftercare may reduce this duration slightly.
Is this a straightening treatment?
Yes and No. Both Brasil Cacau and Keratin Aus Smooth can be used as a straightening treatment by following the instructions for straightening. There is also the ability to apply less heat to keep some of the natural waves in your hair with adjusted instructions.

I had ENOUGH of my frizzy hair!
Hey, I’m Stacey and I co-founded KHT after struggling with frizzy out of control hair.
In 2012 the frizz finally got to me so I went to a salon to have my hair treated with Brasil Cacau Keratin, the treatment cost me $450. I really enjoyed the Brasil Cacau keratin treatment but as it can last 3 – 4 months we were looking at spending somewhere between $1350 to $1800 per year to maintain!
Inspired, we set out to source an alternative way to get the keratin hair straightening treatment and found a way but it meant buying in bulk. We figured that we weren’t the only ones who could benefit from the cost savings so we crafted a DIY kit and began selling what we didn’t use.
We worked on how to send these treatments out without tampering with the quality. So (me being a nurse) came up with the idea to store the treatment in sterile syringes to keep them fresh and air tight. It also had the benefit of assuring customers the exact amount they were receiving (ml’s shown on the syringe) and ability to replace the cap to only use a portion at a time.
As the treatment mostly involves being able to use a hair straightener there isn’t any hairdresser qualifications required to perform the treatment. My hubby Andrew has performed the treatment on me a number of occasions, he has no professional training in hair styling and only used a straightener a few times. I’ve also performed it myself with the same results.
